September 26th 2023 marks the 40 year anniversary of the Australia II crew winning the prestigious America’s Cup. In an event that truly stopped the nation, the iconic America’s Cup win shaped the very fabric of the Australian sporting landscape.

This September, Australian Sailing is proud to shine the spotlight on sustainability in our sport, and the innovative ways in which clubs, class associations and other affiliated organisations are reducing their environmental impact.

Australian Sailing is delighted to launch The Learn to Wing Program, the new program for Discover Sailing Centres (DSCs) which is designed to assist in introducing new participants to the exciting discipline.

Olivia Price keynotes 2023 SheSails Leadership Conference

Next in the lineup of Keynote Speakers for this year’s SheSails Leadership Conference is Olympic Silver Medallist and co-skipper of the Team Australia Challenge for the inaugural Women’s America’s Cup in 2024, Olivia Price.

We are very much looking forward to hearing about Olivia’s journey at the conference and the increasing pathways that are available for women in sailing.

Australian Sailing Partners with Zhik on Youth Sail Series

Australian Sailing is excited to be able to announce long term partner Zhik has agreed to come on board with support for the 2023 and 2024 Youth Sail Series.

Zhik gear is the choice of Olympic and world champions around the globe, including our own Australian Sailing Team and they will now bring this quality apparel to the Youth Sail Series as prizes for each event.

Safety in Focus 

Public Comment invited on Proposed Amendments

Three proposed amendments to the Special Regulations are now available for public comment. Comments are closed on Friday 6 October 2023. The feedback received is important to Australian Sailing and will help to inform the decision on how to proceed.

Club in Focus 

Port Kembla Sailing Club

Situated on the northern shore of Lake Illawarra at Berkeley Harbour, is Port Kembla Sailing Club. Lake Illawarra, ‘pleasant place by the sea’, from the Dharawal, is said to be one of the most picturesque spots on the coast. 

The club boasts one of the best sailing locations in NSW, with its large, grassy rigging area, great facilities (including camping on site for regattas), an accessible beach, a big clubhouse and plenty of free parking. Read more about PKSC.

Australian Sailing Team News 

Wearn Wins Maiden ILCA 7 World Championship

Perth’s Matt Wearn has broken through for his maiden ILCA 7 World Championship, breaking a run of three consecutive silver medals.

The World Championship Gold will sit neatly alongside the Olympic title he collected at Tokyo 2020 and sets him on a path to continue Australia’s golden run in the class at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
